How to print the heatshield tiles?

All the heatshield tiles are really straight forward to print. All you need to do is load them into your slicer software (e.g. Cura), select your desirable settings (e.g. layer height, infill percentage, etc.) and slice the parts. I used 0.25mm nozzle, 0.1mm layer height to print these parts

Please note: I already saved the STL for each part in the orientation I printed them on my FDM printer. Hence, when you load the STL in your slicer software, you don’t need to orientate them again, unless you want to try to print them in a different orientation. Also, all parts in this Heatshield Upgrade package were designed to be printed WITHOUT supports. Hence, you don’t need to generate any support structure for any of them!

STEP 1: Install Heat Shield to the Nose Cone

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Nose Cone_Heat Shield_Top (a)
  • 1x Nose Cone_Heat Shield_Front (b)
  • 1x Nose Cone_Heat Shield_Rear (c)
  • 1x Nose Cone_Heat Shield_Bottom (d)
  • 1x Upper Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Top (e)
  • 1x Upper Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom (f)
  • 1x Upper Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Top (g)
  • 1x Upper Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom (h)
  • 1x Nose Cone (i)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue all parts onto the Nose Cone

STEP 2: Install Heat Shield to the Nose Cone Fairing

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Nose Cone Fairing_Heat Shield (a)
  • 1x Nose Cone Fairing (b)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Heat Shield to the back of the Nose Cone Fairing. Hint: Use the Heat Shield on the Nose Cone in STEP 1 above to perfectly align the Heat Shield to the Nose Cone Fairing

STEP 3: Install Heat Shield to the Forward Dome Section

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Forward Dome_Heat Shield (a)
  • 1x Forward Dome Section (b)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Heat Shield to the back of the Forward Dome Section. Hint: Use the Heat Shield on the Nose Cone Fairing in STEP 2 above to perfectly align the Heat Shield to the Forward Dome Section

STEP 4: Install Heat Shield to the Common Dome Section

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Common Dome_Heat Shield (a)
  • 1x Common Dome Section (b)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Heat Shield to the back of the Common Dome Section. Hint: Use the Heat Shield on the Forward Dome Section in STEP 3 above to perfectly align the Heat Shield to the Common Dome Section

STEP 5: Install Heat Shield to the LOX Tank Section

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Lower Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Top (a)
  • 1x Lower Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom_1 (b)
  • 1x Lower Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Top (c)
  • 1x Lower Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom (d)
  • 1x LOX Tank_Heat Shield (e)
  • 1x LOX Tank Section (f)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue all part onto the LOX Tank Section

STEP 6: Install Heat Shield to the Thrust Dome Section

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Lower Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom_2 (a)
  • 1x Lower Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom_2 (b)
  • 1x Thrust Dome_Heat Shield (c)
  • 1x Thrust Dome Section (d)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue all parts onto the back of the Thrust Dome Section

STEP 7: Install Heat Shield to the Skirt Section

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Lower Flap_LH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom_3 (a)
  • 1x Lower Flap_RH_Aerofoil Cover_Bottom_3 (b)
  • 1x Skirt_Heat Shield (c)
  • 1x Skirt Section (d)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue all parts onto the back of the Skirt Section

STEP 8: Install Heat Shield to the Upper Flaps

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Upper Flap_RH_Heat Shield (a)
  • 1x Upper Flap_RH (b)
  • 1x Upper Flap_LH_Heat Shield
  • 1x Upper Flap_LH

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Upper Flap_RH_Heat Shield to the back of the Upper Flap_RH
  2. Glue the Upper Flap_LH_Heat Shield to the back of the Upper Flap_LH

STEP 9: Install Heat Shield to the Lower Flaps

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Lower Flap_RH_Heat Shield (a)
  • 1x Lower Flap_RH (b)
  • 1x Lower Flap_LH_Heat Shield
  • 1x Lower Flap_LH

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Lower Flap_RH_Heat Shield to the back of the Lower Flap_RH
  2. Glue the Lower Flap_LH_Heat Shield to the back of the Lower Flap_LH

STEP 10: Reassemble the SPACESHIP-S1 model

Part required (refer to the photos below):

  • All sub-assemblies from previous STEPs

Assembly process:

  1. Stack all the sub-assemblies together to make the SPACESHIP-S1

I’m looking to buy the STLs for the Starship, Booster and launch stand and I want to cost it all up. Roughly, how many kilogrammes of filament do I need?

Also, before I go about getting the newest version of starship model, is there any newer version in the works that I should wait for or should I get the V3. is a S28+ in the works.
