How to Print & Assemble The JET-FA

How to print this model?

If you want to save this How-To instruction as a pdf file (and print it out later if needed), simply copy the URL of this page and paste it to https://www.printfriendly.com/ . Printfriendly will generate a printer-friendly pdf of the page with all the texts and images for you.

Most of the STL files are really straight forward to print. All you need to do is load them into your slicer software (I use Cura), select your desirable settings (e.g. layer height, infill percentage, etc.) and slice the parts. I used 0.4mm nozzle 0.2mm layer height to print all parts for this model

Here are some tips:

  • Fan Blade: If you have a dual-extruder 3D printer, you can print the leading edge and the body of a fan blade at once. Simple load both the Fan Blade (Leading Edge).stl and Fan Blade (Body).stl in Cura. Select both parts and right click, select “merge”. Now you can assign each nozzle for each part.

If you don’t have a dual-extruder 3D printer, you can print the Fan Blade (Single piece).stl and paint the leading edge later.

  • Nose Cone: Similar to the Fan Blade, if you have a dual-extruder 3D printer, you can print the Nose Cone and the Nose Cone Stripe at once. Simple load both parts in Cura, select both and right click, select “merge”. Now you can assign each nozzle for each part.

If you don’t have a dual-extruder 3D printer, you can simply print the Nose Cone in black and paint the slot (which was meant for the Nose Cone Stripe) in white.

How to assemble this model?

So now you’ve got all your parts printed? Great! Let’s assemble the model!

This model is super simple (yet impressive) to assemble. However, before we start, you’ll need to purchase some super glue and magnets to put this model together:

  • M3 x 12mm Hex Socket Cap Screw (LINK) | Qty: 18-off
  • M3 Hex Nut (LINK) | Qty: 18-off
  • M4 x 16mm Hex Socket Button Screw (LINK) | Qty: 10-off
  • M4 Hex Nut (LINK) | Qty: 10-off
  • M4 Washer (LINK) | Qty: 6-off
  • Deep Groove Ball Bearing: 20mm I.D, 47mm O.D, 14mm R.W (LINK) | Qty: 1-off
  • Super glue (LINK) | Qty: 1 bottle

STEP 1: Assemble Fan Blades into Fan Disc

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Fan Disc (a)
  • 18x Fan Blades (b)

Assembly process:

  1. Slide each Fan Blade one by one into their slots in the Fan Disc.

Note: The Fan Blades should be fitted tightly and should not wobble once fully assembled into the Fan Disc. Use supper glue if needed.

STEP 2: Assemble Annulus Fillers into Fan Disc

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Fan Disc/Fan Blades sub-assembly from STEP 1 (a)
  • 18x Annulus Fillers (b)
  • 18x M3 x 12mm Hex Socket Cap Screws (c)
  • 18x M3 Hex Nuts (d)

Assembly process:

  1. Assemble each Annulus Filler in between each pair of Fan Blades: (1) Drop an M3 Hex Nut into the pocket on the Fan Disc, (2) Slide an Annulus Filler in place and (3) Use an M3 x 12mm Hex Socket Cap Screw to secure the Annulus Filler

Note: See cross-section view below for clarification. Before tightening the M3 x 12mm Hex Socket Cap Screw, ensure that it has engaged with the M3 Hex Nut

STEP 3: Assemble Windage Shield into Fan Disc

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Sub-assembly from STEP 2 (a)
  • 1x Windage Shield (b)
  • 4x M4 x 16mm Hex Socket Button Screw
  • 4x M4 Hex Nut

Assembly process:

  1. Offer the Windage Shield to the back of the Fan Disc then find its correct orientation by rotating the Windage Shield until all 10 holes on this part aligned with those on the Fan Disc
  2. Use 4x M4 x 16mm Hex Socket Button Screw and 4x M4 Hex Nut to secure the Windage Shield to the Fan Disc

Note: The positions of the M4 Screws & Nuts are shown in the pictures below

STEP 4: Assemble Fan Shaft into Fan Disc

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Sub-assembly from STEP 3 (a)
  • 1x Fan Shaft (b)
  • 6x M4 x 16mm Hex Socket Button Screw
  • 6x M4 Hex Nut
  • 6x M4 Washer

Assembly process:

  1. Offer the Fan Shaft to the back of the Windage Shield then find its correct orientation by rotating the Fan Shaft until all the holes on this part aligned with those on the Fan Disc
  2. Use 6x M4 x 16mm Hex Socket Button Screw, 6x M4 Hex Nut and 6x M4 Washer to secure the Fan Shaft to the Windage Shield

Note: The positions of the M4 Screws, Nuts and Washers are shown in the pictures below

STEP 5: Assemble Nose Cone into Fan Disc

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Sub-assembly from STEP 4 (a)
  • 1x Nose Cone (with Nose Cone Stripe) (b)
  • 1x Nose Cone Tip (c)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Nose Cone Tip to the Nose Cone
  2. Press-fit the Nose Cone to the Fan Disc

STEP 6: Assemble the Stand

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Model Stand (a)
  • 1x Ball Bearing (20mm I.D, 47mm O.D, 14mm R.W) (b)
  • 1x Ball Bearing Housing (c)

Assembly process:

  1. Glue the Ball Bearing Housing to the Model Stand
  2. Press-fit (or glue if required) the Ball Bearing to the Ball Bearing Housing

STEP 7: Assemble the Fan Assembly to the Stand

What you need (refer to the photos below):

  • 1x Fan Assembly from STEP 5 (a)
