The STL package of this model includes an “All-In-One” Print Profile created for Bambu Lab X1 and P1 Series 3D printers. If you intend to use any of those printers to print the model, follow this instruction to print all parts: How to use Bambu Studio’s All-In-One Print Profile
If you don’t have access to any Bambu Lab X1 and P1 Series 3D printers. All of the STL files are really straight forward to print. All you need to do is load them into your slicer software, select your desirable settings (e.g. layer height, infill percentage, etc.) and slice the parts. Most part of the model can be printed with a standard 0.4mm Nozzle. However, to achieve the optimum result for parts with small details (e.g. Heat Shield, Hinge Camera, SN text, etc.), we strongly recommend using a 0.2mm (or 0.25mm) Nozzle
Please note: I already saved the STL for each part in the orientation I printed them on my FDM printer. Hence, when you load the STL in your slicer software, you don’t need to orientate them again, unless you want to try to print them in a different orientation.
Below are some tips.
-
At STEP 1, you’ll find 2 STL’s in the folder called OLM-S4 Assembly and OLM-S4 Assembly (Without Covers) . If you load these files, you’ll see the fully assembled OLM-S4 model. This will help you understand where each and every part is fitted on the model.
-
At STEP 2, all 6x Legs can be printed without support. Only the Leg_1_Frame needs support.
-

At STEP 3, you MUST print the Sliding Ring before the Inner Ring. This is because these two parts are interlocked. Once you’ve printed the Inner Ring to at least about 15mm height (or just before it starts to print the “crown”), pause the print, drop the Sliding Ring into the Inner Ring, then resume printing. Once the Inner Ring is complete, the Sliding Ring is trapped in the middle and can only slide up/down to a certain distance (which was designed specifically for the Booster holding mechanism to work). Failure to follow this instruction meaning you won’t be able to install the Sliding Ring to the Inner Ring
-
At STEP 8, although you can technically print the Dowel Pin, QD Case_Pin 1 and QD Case_Pin 2, I highly recommend you to purchase these parts instead. The Dowel Pin allows the QD Plate to slide in/out of the QD hood smoother, and the QD Case Pins are only 2mm in dia, which will be difficult to print on FDM printers. You can easily get some plastic, or metal rod in this dia on the Internet and just cut them into length rather than having to print them.
If you must print them, please download their STL files via this LINK
-
At STEP 9, because all the holes on the Water Cooled Steel Plate_Centre, Outer Ring, and Side are very small, I highly recommend to these parts with a 0.2mm (or 0.25mm Nozzle if your printer doesn’t have a 0.2mm one). All other parts of the model can be printed with a standard 0.4mm Nozzle.
-
All magnet holes can be printed without support regardless of their positions/orientations on the model. Please don’t generate support for these holes (unless you really need to). Otherwise, you may struggle to remove support inside the holes due to restricted access.
-
This OLM-S4 model is designed in such a way that allows you to assemble and disassemble the model into piece part level because almost every part is held together by magnets. However, if you prefer to glue everything (or some parts together), that’s also fine, you can use the Location Pin (in STEP 08 folder) instead of the 5mm dia x 3mm thick magnets to help align the parts together.
-
This model is designed at 1:96 scale and I highly recommend you to print at this scale to achieve the highest quality. However, if you decided to print it at a different scale, please be aware that the magnets I selected for this model will no longer fit and you will have to glue the parts together.
How to assemble the OLM-S4
So now you’ve got all your parts printed? Great! Let’s assemble the model!
I’ll take you through the assembly process step by step but before that, you need to purchase some items:
- 5mm dia x 3mm thick N42 Neodymium magnets (LINK) | Qty: 90-off
- 3mm dia x 2mm thick N42 Neodymium (LINK) | Qty: 4-off
- Rubber band (LINK) | Qty: 1-off (This is the Rubber band I use, you don’t need to use the exact same one, any rubber band is fine)
- BASF Forward AM Ultrafuse TPC 45D Silver 2.85mm 500g (LINK) | Qty: 1-off spool (I simply cut this filament into short strands to make the flexible pipes for the model, you don’t need to use the exact same one, any flexible filament is fine)
- 5mm Diameter x 36 mm Length Steel Parallel Dowel Pin (LINK) | Qty: 2-off (This part is optional but I highly recommend)
- Brass Solid Round Rod 2mm Diameter 100mm Length (LINK) | Qty: 4-off (This part is optional but I highly recommend)
- Super glue (LINK) | Qty: 1 bottle
STEP 1: ‘Dry’ assemble the model
At this step, all I want you to do is try to stack all the parts together to get a good understanding of where they are located. Because there are a lot of magnets you need to fit during the assembly process, doing this first step will give you an idea of how to fit the magnets in each part correctly. Please use the STL files in STEP 01 folder and the photos below if required.
STEP 2: Assemble the Legs
Parts required (refer to the photos below)
- 1x Leg_1 (a)
- 1x Leg_2 (b)
- 1x Leg_3 (c)

- 1x Leg_6 (f)
- 1x Leg_1_Frame (g)
- 12x Magnets (5mm dia x 3mm thick) (highlighted in red)
Assembly process
- STEP 2a: Glue 1x magnet (5mm dia x 3mm thick) into its pocket at the top and bottom of each Leg

- 2x Key_S2 (e)
- 1x Orbital Launch Mount_Top (f)
- 12x Magnets (5mm dia x 3mm thick) (highlighted in red)
Assembly process:
- STEP 3a: Glue 12x magnets (5mm dia x 3mm thick) into their pockets at bottom of the Inner Ring
- STEP 3b: Install 1x Finger to the Inner Ring (follow instructions in the photo below). Once installed correctly, the Finger should pivot freely around the cylindrical rod. Repeat the process until all 20x Fingers are installed to the Inner Ring
- STEP 3c: Stretch a rubber band (use more than one if needed) and insert it into the cut-out slot at the bottom of each Finger. As the rubber band is being stretched, its tension keeps all 20x Fingers at their up right positions, which also pushes the Sliding Ring down
- STEP 3d: To quickly validate whether the Booster holding mechanism has been assembled correctly or not, use at least 2x Keys to push the Sliding Ring upward through any two opposite slots at the bottom of the Inner Ring. If all 20x Fingers fully extend/retract smoothly together, that means you have completed this step. If not, check the Fingers/Rubber band to ensure they have been installed correctly.

- STEP 5e: Glue one end of each filament strand into the open-end pipes on the Pipe System*
- STEP 5f: Assemble the Pipe System, Nozzles, and the filament strands to the Orbital Launch Mount_Bottom
- STEP 5g: Carefully bend the Railings (flatten) (part e,f,g,h) at the joints to get them into the correct shape. DO NOT overbend as you may risk separating the joints – which would make the assembly to the Orbital Launch Mount_Base much harder.

- STEP 8h: Fully open and close the QD Case Lid to ensure all the linkages work fine
- STEP 8i: Install the Booster QD to the OLM (Sub-assembly from STEP 7)
Please note: To secure the 2mm dia rods firmly into place (in case if they are a bit loose and can fall out), you can insert the retainer rings at both ends of each rod.
STEP 9: Assemble the Water Cooled Steel Plate
Parts required (refer to the photos below)
- 1x Water Cooled Steel Plate_Top (a)

Congratulations, you have fully built the OLM-S4 model at this point!
STEP 10: Assemble the BOOSTER to the OLM-S4
Parts required (refer to the photos below)
- 1x OLM-S4 from STEP 8
- 6x Key from STEP 3
- 1x Booster Stabilizer (Optional)
- 1x BOOSTER
Assembly process
- STEP 10a: Insert 2x Keys to any two opposite slots at the bottom of the Orbital Launch Mount_Base
- STEP 10b: Lower the BOOSTER into the OLM-S4. Whilst holding the BOOSTER-S4 at the with one hand, use the other hand to push one key upward and slide it clockwise to ‘partially’ extend the Fingers and lock them into position. Switch hand and repeat with the other key. Once both Keys are in, all 20x Fingers should be fully extended to support the weight of the BOOSTER.
If all Fingers are not yet fully extended, simply insert more keys – you can install up to 6x keys in total at the bottom of the Orbital Launch Mount_Base.
- STEP 10c: Open the QD Case Lid (if haven’t done so already), and slide the QD Plate forward. The 2x magnets on the OLM’s QD Plate should attract those on the BOOSTER’s QD plate.
To remove the BOOSTER, repeat the above steps in reverse
- STEP 10d (OPTIONAL): If you wish to further stabilize the BOOSTER, before installing the BOOSTER to the OLM, insert the ‘Booster Stabilizer’ to the bottom of the BOOSTER first, then follow the exact same steps above (10a -> 10c)
Please note: you’ll need to remove the ‘Engine Skirt’ from the ‘Booster Aft Section’ first in order to install the ‘Booster Stabilizer’, then reinstall it.
