The STL package of this model includes an “All-In-One” Print Profile created for Bambu Lab X1 and P1 Series 3D printers. If you intend to use any of those printers to print the model, follow this instruction to print all parts: How to use Bambu Studio’s All-In-One Print Profile
If you don’t have access to any Bambu Lab X1 and P1 Series 3D printers, load the STL’s into your slicer software, select your desirable settings (e.g. layer height, infill percentage, etc.) and slice the parts. This model requires both a standard 0.4mm Nozzle, and a small 0.2mm Nozzle to print small parts.
Below are some tips.
-
There are two “All-In-One” Print Profiles created for this model.
The 0.2mm profile contains parts that should be printed with a 0.2mm Nozzle, 0.1mm layer height
The 0.4mm profile contains parts that should be printed with a 0.4mm Nozzle, 0.2mm layer height -
At STEP 1, you’ll find an STL in the STEP 01 (DO NOT PRINT) folder. If you load the file, you’ll see the fully assembled DRONESHIP-XS1 model. This will help you understand where each and every part is fitted on the model.
-
At STEP 3, in order to print the Hull_Centre section, you MUST disable the Prime Tower before slicing the part. Otherwise, you’ll get an error saying there’s a clash between the Prime Tower, and the part.
Remember to enable the Prime Tower again to print the rest of the model! -
The top faces of the Hull are printed directly on the build plate as the 1st layer. This is intentional to achieve the smoothest surface, and best quality for this feature. Therefore, before printing the Hull_Front, Hull_Centre, and Hull_Rear sections, ensure that your build plate is washed/cleaned thoroughly. Any dirt/grease/damages left on the build plate will get transferred directly to the 1st layer and ruin the overall quality of the model.
-
This model contains various parts which are designed and optimised for multi-colour printing. Although we also provide options to print these parts in one single colour in the STL package, it is highly recommended that you use the multi-colour versions to achieve the best quality
-
All the Fences on the model contains two parallel strings (we call them “Fence_Cable”). Each fence has its own “cables” that were designed specifically for that fence. Hence, to print these fences, you’ll need to load one fence, and its corresponding “cables” into your slicer together as an assembly.
Each “cable” was designed to be printed in one single continuous stroke which starts from the first fence post, travels through all the posts in the middle, and ends at the last post. Therefore, when you slice these fences in your slicer, always check the “preview” to ensure your “cables” will be printed correctly.
The Fences and cables MUST be printed with a 0.4mm Nozzle, at 0.2mm layer height.
-
All magnet holes can be printed without support regardless of their positions/orientations on the model. Please don’t generate support for these holes (unless you really need to). Otherwise, you may struggle to remove support inside the holes due to restricted access.
-
The DRONESHIP-XS1 model is designed in such a way that allows you to assemble and disassemble the model into piece part level because almost every part is held together by magnets. However, if you prefer to glue everything (or some parts together), that’s also fine, you can use the Locating Pins (in STEP 99 – OPTIONAL PARTS folder) instead.
-
This DRONESHIP-XS1 is designed at 1:200 scale and it is highly recommended to print the model at this scale to achieve the highest quality. However, if you decided to print it at a different scale, please be aware that the magnets originally selected for this model will no longer fit and you will have to glue the parts together.
How to assemble the DRONESHIP-XS1
So now you’ve got all your parts printed? Great! Let’s assemble the model!
I’ll take you through the assembly process step by step but before that, you need to purchase some items:
STEP 1: ‘Dry’ assemble the model
At this step, all I want you to do is try to stack all the parts together to get a good understanding of where they are located. Because there are a lot of magnets you need to fit during the assembly process, doing this first step will give you an idea of how to fit the magnets in each part correctly. Please use the STL files in STEP 01 folder and the photos below if required.
STEP 2: Assemble the Hull (Front Section)
