DRAGON - MS (Interior Lighting)
Crew Dragon Spacecraft - Model S (Interior Lighting Upgrade)
How to install the interior lighting into the DRAGON-MS model?
In this tutorial, I’ll explain how you can install the interior lighting upgrade into your DRAGON-MS model!
Before we start, you should find these components in the interior lighting pack:
– 1x LED light (note that two 5mm Dia magnets are already soldered to the wires)
– 1x 5mm Dia magnet and 1x 10mm Dia magnet (these two magnets are temporarily attached to the LED light)
– 1x 3D printed bracket
Now, let’s set up the interior lighting unit by following these simple steps:
STEP 0: Ensure that you have everything required (see above)
STEP 1: Separate the 5mm Dia magnet from the LED light and leave it aside (the one that is temporarily attached to the LED, please DO NOT try to remove the magnets that have been soldered to the wires). You can also separate the ends of the two wires at this point. Note that the 10mm Dia magnet should be attached to the end of the BLACK wire.
STEP 2: Slide the battery into the slot on the front of the 3D printed bracket
STEP 3: Take the 5mm Dia magnet from STEP 1 and push it into the small circular hole located on the bottom of the 3D printed bracket. Note that the magnet shall be pushed into the hole until it touches the battery. This small magnet serves two purposes: (1) lock the battery in place so it won’t accidentally fall out of the 3D printed bracket and (2) position the LED light so it is pointing in the correct direction.
STEP 4: Connect the LED light to the battery. Note that the BLACK wire should be connected to the negative end and the RED wire should be connected to the positive end. Tuck the wires into the slots on both sides of the 3D printed bracket to tidy it up.
STEP 5: Carefully bend the LED light to position it as illustrated in the photos below. Note that the light should be pointing down and slightly towards the rear of the 3D printed bracket. The 5mm Dia magnet should also help hold the LED light pointing in this direction.
STEP 6: Remove the body panel of the Crew section and install the interior lighting unit by sliding it all the way up (from the bottom). Note that you won’t be able to rotate the interior lighting unit once it’s correctly installed. (Ensure that you get the orientation correct – the flat face of the 3D printed bracket is facing down and the sloped face is facing up)
STEP 7: Re-assemble the body panel of the Crew section. Note that if the interior lighting was installed correctly, the LED light should be pointing towards the cabin – where the seats are.
STEP 8: If you want to disable the LED light, simply remove the interior lighting unit, disconnect either the BLACK or RED wire from the battery (I prefer the BLACK one – that’s why I attach a 10mm Dia magnet to this end so I can easily ‘park’ it on the side of the battery). Once complete, re-fit the interior lighting unit to the body panel of the Crew section.
